What to look forA gentle, sandy entry and a guarded swimming area with a lifeguard are essential with small children. Check for shade too — in the heat the coastal forest behind the dunes can be a lifesaver.
Tried-and-tested spotsWidely recommended are Stegna, Jastarnia and Władysławowo on the Hel Peninsula, Łeba at the gateway to Słowiński National Park, and the quieter beaches of the spit. Hel tempts with a narrow cape and water on both sides.
On a windy dayWhen the wind sweeps the beach, nearby saves the day: the shifting dunes near Łeba, the seal sanctuary in Hel and the seaside amusement parks.
Tip: in July and August arrive at the car park before 10 a.m. — the most popular access points fill up fast.
